Falling for Autumn

I must say that Autumn has worked its way into my heart and quickly become my favorite season. My entire life, I felt like I would live for the summertime, but I have just recently come to realize how incredible Fall makes me feel :)

Here are some things that make Falling for Autumn easy :)

1. Looking Outside

Simply said, Fall is GORGEOUS. There is nothing more beautiful than the incredible colours and shapes you see in the gardens, on the trees and on the ground :)
So, take a moment, breathe in the fresh air and look at the wonders of nature!

Got Rain?

Don't worry.. as a former (and possibly future) Vancouverite, I know how you feel!!!
However, rain is beautiful .. the sound of the drops on the ground are relaxing and it is great to see the city wash-off and clean-up :D
to make rain make you feel happy, all you need is
AN AWESOME UMBRELLA

option 1: get a clear, dome umbrella

and step out into the city - Gossip Girl style, looking fashionable as ever, and never missing out on a cute little cafe to run into and dry off, or a cute guy walking by you on the street :)

option 2: get a RAINBOW umbrella, because... well ..rainbows are awesome and optimistic!! (You can't have a rainbow without a little rain!
--> what better way to share the happy than carry around a beautiful rainbow?! :

aaaand if nature decides to surprise you and start raining when you are not prepared and armed with umbrella in hand. ..then simply:

2. Wardrobe and Beauty Changes

WARDROBE

my Fall wardrobe essentials:

1. my vintage suede jacket .. quite a bit more beige in person, and the perfect neutral piece to accessorize in the fall :) (got it in almost perfect condition for under $1 (yes, ONE dollar!) at a Thrift Shop)
2. my trusty H&M mustard yellow bad - going on its second year with me, this baby never fails to make me smile and make any neutral outfit FUN!
3. my handsome fall shoes! a little masculine, they make me feel powerful, fashion forward and most importantly WARM!!
--> when shopping for Fall shoes, look for ones with a THICK sole - an inch off the ground means dry, warm feet !!!
4. my olive green scarf from Indian Point - https://www.facebook.com/IndianPoint , a soft jersey fabric with some gold coins and chains to add a little twinkle to my walk

--> decided to start with a little cutout of last year's blog post on accessorizing in the Fall :)

What I see a lot in Fall is people wearing only dark, bulky clothing. Most people only own one or two warm coats, and just as many hats and mittens... sooo here's some nice, simple ideas on how to use old and new scarves, to add some spice and colour to different outfits...we cannot always afford the latest trends, fabrics and colours, but there is always something in our closet that we can give new life, we just need to look at it with a different eye! I have been going through my grandma's closet, looking at old pieces with exciting colours and patterns, and have chosen a few, which will make wonderful scarves just after a short appointment with a scissors, the overlock setting on my sewing machine and mayybe one or two broken necklaces, brooches & some cute buttons :)

MAKEUP

--> while I am preparing an entire blog post and tutorial on Fall Makeup, here are a couple favourites I tend to reach for on a daily basis :)

1. Estee Lauder Natural Quad - it has four tiny eyeshadows, two matte brown shades perfect for eyebrows and subtle eyeshadow looks, one forest green colour and a shimmery white highlight (MAC vanilla style :)
alternatively .. try the NYX eyebrow cake powder + the Essence Eyeshadow Due in Ever Glam!!
--> a completely fool-proof Autumn eyeshadow smokey eye :D

2.&3. Maybelline Color Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze (note: this is a photo and swatch of the American version.. different from the European one)

4. Ben Nye lip pencils (particularly in the colour Vino .. amazing for a bold nighttime lip or that perfect vampy colour for your Halloween costume :)

5. JOE fresh lipgloss in Berry - super pigmented and cute :D

BEAUTY

honey, it's all about MOISTURE when the cold hits
my favourites for keeping my skin smooth and plump:

1. LUSH none of your beeswax Lip Balm
2. MOROCCAN OIL for your lovely locks
3. Cetaphil Barrier Cream to lock-in the moisture - even for the dryest of skins :)
4. Burt's Bees lemon butter cuticle cream - to keep your hands and nails looking their best

NAILS
  • darker, Fall coloured nails :)

My mostest favoritest, amazingest, gorgeoustest colour of nailpolish for Fall:

The one which I actually own:

(looks exactly like the Chanel one under different light)

I have never tried the gorgeous Chanel polish in 531, however, I am in love with this s.he one (number 317)... no matter how many times I look at it throughout the day, it always looks incredible and completely different. It can go from gold, to teal, to rose, to green ..all depending on the lighting :)
..the best part: it costs almost nothing (especially compared to Chanel)

  • velvet manicures

what I got as a gift :)

what it looks like on:

now for a dupe:

the brand of nail decorations which I buy:
(if you look around amazon there are also different colours and prices to choose from :)

something you can get at the store:

3. Food & Things that go in our Tummies

As much as I would hate to admit this, there is nothing that says Fall to me like a Pumpkin Spice Latte

If you feel the same, but do not feel like spending $5 on a Starbucks Coffee, here is an awesome DIY from The Kitchn :

aaaand for all of you health and http://www.shakeology.com/ freaks :P a yummy recipe from The Fit Housewife :

Another wonderful thing about the Fall and Winter, is the changes we see in the way we eat. I love the way warm, comforting spices that fill the air in the kitchen, and put the entire house in a cozy and loving mood. Attached, is a photo of some wonderful things to start adding to your food - delicious and very very good for you. Filled with incredible, healing antioxidants..spices are really what makes a meal special. When it is cold outside, for me ..it is all about the curries! Ginger, red pepper, chilies, cinnamon..all of those different spices together in one colourful stew, can really brighten up the mood for me!

Here's a link which will transport you to an amazing Thai Curry recipe which will then transport you to a different country and a meal that everyone will love!
Just keep in mind: be creative!! use all the veggies you have left over in your fridge (peppers, carrots, onions) making the curry as colourful and flavourful as you can definitely takes some thinking outside the box.. if there is an ingredient you don't have, try using something similar - experiment and use this as the perfect occasion to clean out your fridge :D don't ever think you have to follow any recipe perfectly :)

And finally, my favourite, warm & yummy bedtime treat:

yes please?

Apple Cinnamon Tea in particular

my favorite:

or actually, any Yogi tea at all :D
(their inspiring messages on each teabag are so positive!)

don't forget the Honey, Honey ;)

4. Home

No matter who you are and where you are, there is definitely no place like home :) the word itself is filled with warmth and joy.

reasons why staying in is great:
  • you save a lot of money you would have spent on going out (save up for a little weekend trip or a nice dinner date :)
  • you have time to catch up with family and friends
  • you can re-watch all of your favourite classic movies!!! (my pick is the entire Disney Classic collection ..alternatively ALL seasons of Friends :D

( add some Orange Cranberry muffins and you are ready for a warm Movie Night In )

to make staying in even greater:

1.light some beautiful, scented candles... they make everything GLOW.

2. put on some cozy slippers

3. grab a good book + a cup of tea

because, after all ...

Much love and Good Luck
